ATTORNEY
FULL-TIME ATTORNEY

Position Summary:
CVP is hiring a full-time attorney to assist victims with legal services addressing the complex and expansive nature of legal needs victims have resulting from exploitation. The attorney will serve victims of all forms of human trafficking throughout Mississippi, traveling to the jurisdiction of need, with issues including child custody, divorce, immigration, expungement, and victim-defendant representation.
Responsibilities:
- meeting with clients to assess and determine individual needs
- drafting petitions and motions
- representing clients on a variety of issues in civil and criminal court
- connecting clients with related resources to aid with legal needs
- assisting clients with paperwork and necessary filings pertaining to immigration, identification paperwork, and other documentation
- filing petitions for divorce and custody and representing the client through the process
- identifying criminal history that is eligible for expungement and petitioning the court for expungement
- traveling to appropriate jurisdictions for hearings
Education and Experience:
- law degree and three years of experience
- experience in both civil and criminal court
- licensed to practice in the state of Mississippi
Requirements:
- strong written and oral communication skills
- pass a criminal background check
- possess a valid Mississippi Driver’s License
- understands the dynamics of trauma-informed care and has the ability to work with victims of violence
- possesses strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- works independently with minimal supervision
