Bringing Mississippi Sexual Assault Laws into the 21st Century

Updated: Feb 24, 2023

This week at the Mississippi State Capitol, the Center for Violence Prevention joined forces to share about the criticality of House Bill 485 & House Bill 995 which have passed the House floor. Now we wait for the Senate to approve this legislation, which would update evidence collection processes that could save the lives of victims and bring justice once perpetrators are serving the time for the crime.

According to the Center for Violence Prevention, from 2019-2021, over those three years in the entire state of Mississippi… only 20 rapes were prosecuted.

Mississippi can do better!

*Let the House Bills be approved!*
